# Developer Account

> Create and configure your Google Chrome Web Store developer account before you can publish.

Before you can publish to the Chrome Web Store, you need a verified Google developer account. Registration requires a one-time **\$5 USD** fee, after which you can publish up to 20 extensions.

## Register your account

**1. Open the Developer Console**

Navigate to the [Chrome Web Store Developer Console](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/devconsole).

**2. Sign in with Google**

Sign in with the Google account you want tied to your developer identity. If you're building for a team or company, use a shared account rather than a personal one.

**3. Accept the developer agreement**

Read and accept the Google Chrome Web Store Developer Agreement.

**4. Pay the registration fee**

Complete the one-time **\$5 USD** payment via Google Pay or credit card. This is not a recurring subscription — you pay once to verify your account.

**5. Confirm your account is active**

Once payment processes, your developer account is active. You can now publish up to 20 extensions from this account.

## Account setup recommendations

* **Use a dedicated account.** Avoid your personal primary Gmail. A separate account can be shared with collaborators as your project scales.
* **Enable two-factor authentication.** If your developer account is compromised, every extension you've published and all their users are at risk. Enable 2FA before you do anything else.
* **Choose the right identity type.** If you're publishing as a company, select **Organization** during signup so your developer name matches your brand.

## What you can do from the dashboard

Once your account is active, the Developer Console gives you access to:

* Upload new extensions and manage existing ones
* Track install counts and active user numbers
* View and respond to user reviews
* Access crash reports and performance data
* Manage privacy declarations and distribution settings

> [!WARNING]
>
> If you lose access to the Google account tied to your developer console, you lose the ability to update your published extensions. Store your credentials securely and keep recovery options up to date.

## Account limits

New accounts can publish up to **20 extensions** by default. If you need to publish more, request a limit increase from the support team inside the Developer Console dashboard.
