Once your extension is live, your work shifts from building to maintaining and growing. Use the Chrome Web Store Developer Console to stay on top of performance, respond to users, and ship improvements.

Checking review status

After submission, open the Chrome Web Store Developer Console and find your extension in the item list. The status column shows one of the following states:
  • Pending Review — your submission is in the review queue
  • Published — your extension is live and visible in the store
  • Rejected — review failed; check your email for the policy violation details
  • Taken Down — the extension was removed after publication; check your email immediately
Google sends an email notification when your status changes.

Monitoring performance

The Developer Console dashboard gives you a real-time view of your extension’s health:
  • Installs — total number of users who have added your extension
  • Active users — users who opened the extension in the past week or month
  • Ratings and reviews — user feedback and scores
  • Crash reports — JavaScript errors caught in the wild that you can trace and fix
Check the dashboard regularly, especially in the first few weeks after launch.

Publishing updates

When you need to fix a bug, add a feature, or respond to a Chrome API change:
  1. Update your prompt in Extensy — refine your prompt and download the new ZIP, or edit the source directly if you’ve customized it.
  2. Increment the version — open manifest.json and increase the version field (e.g., 1.0.0 → 1.0.1). Google rejects re-uploads of the same version number.
  3. Upload the new package — in the Developer Console, open your extension and click Upload new package.
  4. Submit for review — update reviews follow the same process as the initial submission, but are typically faster.
Bug fixes and minor UI changes are often approved in under 24 hours. Updates that add new permissions or change data-handling behavior take longer and require updated privacy declarations.

Responding to user reviews

Reviews influence your store ranking and user trust. Engage with them consistently.
  • Be professional. Respond calmly to critical feedback, even when the review is unfair.
  • Ask for specifics. When a user reports a bug, ask for their Chrome version, operating system, and the site they were using. This makes reproduction much faster.
  • Update your listing. If the same question appears repeatedly in reviews, add the answer to your Detailed Description or a dedicated FAQ section in the store listing.

Promoting your extension

Once published, you have a permanent public store link you can share anywhere. Organic promotion in relevant communities is the most effective channel for indie developers.

If you update your extension to collect new types of user data, you must update your privacy policy and declare the change in the Developer Console before submitting the update. Failure to do so can result in your extension being taken down.
